RGM Post #6

This is an ad? from Coco Chanel. The image link is broken, so I'm just going to type it out.

It is shown like a poem written from chanel:

"I don't understand
how a woman
can leave the house
without fixing herself
up a little. If only out
of politeness.

And then, you never know,
maybe that's the day
she has a date with destiny.

And it's best to be
as pretty as possible
for destiny.

-Coco Chanel"

I hate that this high fashion guru has to put that upon women. The fact that you shouldn't face a day without "fixing yourself up." This is a terrible idea to place with little girls, or little boys. The worst part about the entire thing, is that the ad isn't asking you to look pretty for you, or to make yourself feel better. Its out of politeness for everyone else. Because apparently nobody wants to see the real you. (insert sarcasm here)

As far as I was taught, in every book I read, in every movie I watched, destiny never cared if you were pretty or plain, or thin or fat, or fashion conscious or not. It cared about who you were inside, and for that reason alone, you would rise to match whatever you were up against. I'm a little sad for Coco Chanel that she can't share this same optimism, or even let today's little girls share it.
